In a press release issued on Monday 10 July 2017, the group of 7 political parties, members of the Opposition Rally, spoke on the declaration made in Paris a few days ago by the President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Corneille Nangaa, affirming the impossibility of organizing the elections this year.

The G7 strongly condemns this inordinate delay of the elections, which, according to the constitution, should lead to a first alternation at the head of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and accuses the electoral center of being « in the service of the presidential camp ».

« Neither the constitution nor the organic law governing the organization and functioning of the CENI gives its President the power to decide on the delay of an election, » the statement said.

Moreover, this political grouping describes Mr. Nangaa’s statement as « a confession of failure » and calls for the revitalization of the Electoral Commission as foreseen in the CENCO agreement, while insisting on the possibility of organizing the presidential, legislative and provincial elections by 31 December.
