A UN peacekeeper in the UN Mission for the Stabilization of Congo (MONUSCO) was killed on Monday in Beni, North Kivu, during the attack this morning of a MONUSCO base by the rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). The information was confirmed by the spokesperson of the UN Mission.

Also during the same attack, twelve peacekeepers were wounded and transferred to hospital MONUSCO in Goma, the administrative capital of the province of North Kivu. The Ugandan rebels of the ADF resumed their activities for a few days in this part of the country with the attack last Saturday of a dozen motorcycle taxis on the Kamango-Mbau axis.

It should be remembered that the ADF, originating from neighboring Uganda, has been active in this part of the DRC since 1995. It is accused of being the perpetrator of the violence that has cost more than 700 deaths in Beni since October 2014 and of the instability prevailing in the region.
