Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders takes note of the appointment of Samy Ntita Badibanga as Prime Minister of the government in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as a result of the Agreement reached on 18 October.

Didier Reynders hopes that this appointment will lead to an opening of the democratic space and that it will support the attempts of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) to make the agreement reached within the national dialogue more inclusive. To that end, he sends his best wishes to the new Prime Minister.

The Minister invites all parties involved to find a political agreement before December 19th, to offer the best chances to a short peaceful transition, while allowing for the organization of calm and legitimate elections, in the spirit of the Constitution.
