In a statement issued by the African Union on Monday, 02 October 2017, the Pan-African organization made the feedback of the mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo by the President of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki.

The President of the African Union Commission met with the DRC forces from 28 September to 1 October to inquire about the current situation, reaffirming the AU’s strong desire to accompany the country in the « hot » phase it passes through.

« In accordance with the Constitution and the Agreement of 31 December 2017, the President of the AU Commission strongly encouraged all his interlocutors to go beyond their particularities in order to ensure a political environment conducive to a peaceful and authentically consensual electoral process », reads the press release.

Moussa Faki also welcomed the commitment of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) to publish the electoral calendar, « as expected by the Congolese people » and all the actors, in « reasonable time » and « as soon as possible ». To this end, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission is committed to engaging with all national and international actors in support of the AU Action.
